How ‘Thinking’ Can Be Unproductive

Have you ever had the thought, “What do I do next?” and this can leads to working on a task that’s not the most important at the time

If you’re like me and many entrepreneurs who are in my business acceleration and strategy program, I am going to take a guess and say that you have.

Second Question, now ask yourself how much time do you waste when you’re thinking about what to do next. Not just time, but energy! Every time you’re in the situation of thinking about what to do next, you’re actually wasting both time and energy as your brain has to fire up and start processing options.

BIG AHA

I have been mentoring a client who’s building a software that takes the thinking out of the sales process. The software actually tells the sales person who to connect with next (based on a series of data collected) and how to best connect next, via Email, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, or a Phone Call, etc.

This new sales software, driven by a type of AI (artificial intelligence) tells the sales person what to do, so that all the sales person needs to do, is focus on taking action, such as what to say, or the call to make. In testing and projections the increase in sales revenue just from this tweak in systems will add millions to companies sales revenue.

NOW, let’s bring the conversation down to the grass routes level.

Ask yourself, when, how and why, you find yourself thinking “what do I do next?”.

CREATE RAPID RESULTS TIP

Here’s a personal example: For me the calendar is a powerful tool, as it tells me what I need to do through the day… but there are gaps, SO, what do I do in the gaps?

Over the weekend, I made a list of tasks that I commonly tend to do, and then I prioritized them.

I also took the list of task and placed them on a Kanban type board, essentially 4 columns:

DO IT    |     DOING IT   |    DELEGATED    |    DONE

In the DO IT and DOING IT columns I labeled the tasks SALES, MARKETING, CONTENT, OPERATIONS

I also select a theme for the day. Example todays theme is SALES.

So when the GAP happen, I simply look at my SALES related tasks in the DOING IT column… and I do them.

END NOTE

There is a time for thinking, and then there is the time for ACTION. Create processes and systems to stop letting your thinking get in the way of ACTION!
